Tamil Nadu political theatre may witness new act by superstar Rajnikant
Chennai, Oct 9 : The political theatre in Tamil Nadu may soon witness a new act with fans of superstar Rajnikant compelling him to take a bow.
The key players in the script, ruling DMK and Congress are one side, CPI, CPI(M), DMDK are on the other, the opposition AIADMK is yet to decide its companion, so is the PMK which has come out of the DMK- led Front. The BJP, isolated with the communal 'black mark' in the wake of the incidents in Orissa, Karnataka and even in the state, is looking for allies.
Drawing up the battle lines for the slowly approaching Lok Sabha polls, all these parties have started wooing the potential voters with welfare measures, the DMK expanding its populist schemes like colour TVs, Re 1 a KG rice and 'essential condiments' for Rs 50 a pack. The Kollywood star Vijaykant-led DMDK is presenting computers to blind youth, the PMK has been speaking up for the people on issues relating to the welfare of the people in relation to schemes announced by the DMK government.
However, what is really hogging the limelight, like the mind boggling action sequences in his commercial potboilers, in a sub-plot in this political drama, is Tamil super star Rajnikant's fans urging him to take the plunge into politics and launch his own political party, emulating Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi in Andhra Pradesh.
But even as Rajnikant, who had first played a direct role in the state's politics in the assembly elections in 1996 backing Tamil Maanila Congress(TMC), a new party formed by late Congress stalwart G K Moopanar when he fell out with the Congress-led by former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, has since been keeping mum on his fans' appeal to him.
Even as sources close to the actor deny that Rajnikant is entertaining any ideas of taking the 'political plunge', his fans in Coimbatore have announced that Rajni has indeed launched his party christening it 'Desiya Dravida Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam(DDMMK) complete with a flag coloured blue, white and black with a star in the middle with an image of Rajnikant.
